Public speaking ranks as one of our greatest fears. We think this is astounding, considering with practice and effective preparation – or attending public speaking workshops – it doesn’t have to be this way! Public speaking can be enjoyable and empowering to you and your audience, whether you’re speaking to colleagues and executives in the boardroom, or students in a yoga class, to an audience of several dozen or several hundred, from the heart, or from a script.
Based on our genuine enthusiasm for public speaking, years of leading education events and training seminars (we lost count in the hundreds), we started offering Public Speaking Workshops for organizations and groups, as an approachable and encouraging learning experience. The result has helped participants overcome their fears, embrace confidence, develop their skills, and learn how to engage their audience for a lasting memorable impression.
We’ve had the pleasure of working with brands and organizations with diverse needs and goals such as the retail merchandising team at Navitas Naturals, interdepartmental groups including sales, marketing and operations at Vega, regional executives at Whole Foods Market and teachers in training at Semperviva Yoga. Each workshop is customized to the confidence level, and speaking contexts of the group. We achieve this by researching our groups and scenarios well in advance. Which by the way, is a trademark of a good educator! They will take time to get to know their audience.
One of our favourite topics from our public speaking workshops is how to avoid common speaking pitfalls. Straight from our slide deck, our top tips include:
You’ll notice one of our suggested corrections above, is to OVER enunciate key terms. We recommend warming up your vocal cords with enunciation practice, as it’s an effective way to practice this technique. We shared a few fun tongue twisters you can use for this purpose, along with 14 other tips to improve your public speaking skills in a recent blog post.
The breadth of content we offer ranges from 1-4hrs in duration, topics vary based on the needs of the group. Below is the agenda from a recent 4hr workshop we led for a group of 10 sales and merchandising associates who are often leading product trainings in retail environments.
