Newest Pineapple in the Patch: Meet Julie
So let’s talk about the last few months – with our heads in the sand finishing up client work, strategizing for this new year, and getting our 2017 Trend Guide ready for the presses, we kind of missed one very important thing – the introduction of our newest team member, Julie Viola-Cywinski.
Julie is our Director of Insights, and heads up everything from our analytics, to our customer identification and segmentation. Basically if it involves data, she’s your girl.
Although Julie has been with us since November, we wanted to give her the proper introduction she deserves, so we sat down with her to ask her a few questions about herself and how she approaches work.
Q: Why don’t you start by telling us a little something about yourself.
Well, a fun fact – I love any kind of trivia (or fun facts, LOL) and trivia games like Jeopardy or Trivial Pursuit. I think I am the queen of useless (or sometimes useful) facts – I am a treasure trove of them, like where did the term “rule of thumb” come from? Just ask me when you meet me and I’ll tell you. wink
Q: At Pineapple Collective we love telling stories! What do you think is involved in telling a good story?
Firstly, telling a good story involves really knowing your audience – what is their level of understanding of the subject matter, what is going to engage them and how should the information be served up for them.
Secondly, a story must have purpose. How does the story relate back to, or enhance, the rest of the subject matter. Does it help to illustrate an example or add to the understanding of what you are trying to convey.
Finally, it must include passion and authenticity. If the story doesn’t evoke a feeling or doesn’t seem authentic or feels ingenuine then the audience will dismiss it and forget it.
Q: What excites you about working in the natural health and wellness industry?
What really excites me about working in the natural health and wellness industry is that although it’s growing leaps and bounds it still feels like a small community of like-minded individuals. I love the fact that so many people share the same values of bringing healthy, natural solutions to consumers, and that most companies care deeply about the world we live in and the people that live on it.
And most of all, I love that I can work with brands that I admire and/or personally use – really tying in my personal connection and passion for these brands just gives me that fire to help them succeed through the services we deliver.
Q: So for those that don’t know, what does a “Director of Insights” do?
Essentially, I find answers to our client’s burning questions, or help them discover something that they didn’t even know they wanted to know.
I am the data geek at Pineapple Collective. I sift through information (market research, analytics, surveys, studies etc.) to find valuable insights that will help shape a strategy, idea or tactic. I facilitate all our market or consumer research projects as well as any analytics reports.
Q: What motivates you to do your best work?
I work with a very dedicated and hard working collective of women that have nothing but the highest of standards (*from the rest of the team, insert blush emoji). They push me every day to learn and grow and put 110% into everything. And it is through this work ethic that I am driven to give everything I’ve got in every project we do. There is no better feeling than getting great feedback and delighting our clients with the work we do.
Q: Where do you see yourself, and Pineapple Collective in 5 years?
In 5 years, I see Pineapple Collective being a strong presence in the Natural Health and Wellness Industry – a household name among brands and retailers for providing demonstrated results and unparalleled service. I see our team growing to offer a full suite of services. And I see myself working with so many more amazing brands that are blazing new trails by helping them to shape and drive their marketing strategies.
Q: You sound cool! How can we get social with you?
Think our resident “data darling” might be the solution your brand is looking for? Drop us a line to find out. We can’t wait to hear from you.
